My ‘Crazy’ Start

It’s been a while since I just threw caution to the wind and tried something new.

I recently took a Crazy Quilt Workshop and started on an 8″ square design that, once embellished, will fold into a nifty little tri-fold case for my needles & embroidery scissors.

This is my pre-sewn design consisting of scraps of velvety, satiny, bold fabrics. It starts with the nubby floral in the center and spirals around. It’s challenging for me to ‘just let it go’ with no squares or triangles, but that’s part of the fun. And I kinda understand a few reason why they call them Crazy Quilts. It took me 5 hours just to place the fabrics for this square. (And I haven’t even started any embroidery stitches.) Yup, I’m certifiable!

Anyway, I’ve dipped my toe in the Crazy Quilt waters and I’m sure this is only the beginning! More progress in the weeks ahead as this is a Christmas gift. Shh!
